Ingredients
500g White Flour
1 teaspoon mixed spice
25g dried yeast
pinch of salt
1 x tablespoon sugar
2 x tablespoons olive oil
zest of 1 orange
300g milk
150g dark chocolate drops
1 egg
For the cross mixture:
100g white flour
10g oil
pinch baking powder
90ml water
Method
A delicious alternative to traditional Easter Buns! The orange zest give a lovely refreshing flavour and the dark chocolate drops are just so good with the sweetness of the bun.
The dough may also be proved overnight in the fridge to make life easier over a busy Easter weekend.
Method
Place flour, salt, sugar, oil, egg, yeast, orange and mixed spice in a large mixing bowl. Stir in warm water. knead into a dough.
Cover and leave to prove until doubled in size. Turn out onto floured surface and carefully mix in the chocolate. Divide into 10 and mould into buns. Leave for about 50 mins or until doubled in size.
Make up cross mixture. Mix mixture with enough waster to make a paste. Put into piping bag ready to draw across buns. When buns have risen pipe crosses onto the buns.
Bake for 12 mins at 180’c – until light & fluffy.
Glaze with melted honey when still hot.
