Breadmaking Courses

We run a range of different courses here at the Side Oven – hopefully something to suit most tastes! All our courses are designed to suit everyone from complete beginner to those with a little more experience – don’t be put off breadmaking really is something that can be enjoyed by everyone!

Breadmaking Courses

If you’ve not been on a course with us before then our most basic course is our ‘Breadmaking for All’ Course  - we tend to dip into lots of different methods and doughs to give you a good feel for a variety of breads, croissant and sweetbuns.

Our ‘Breads for All Occasions’ course again includes a wide range of doughs and everyday breads but with a focus on seasonal party breads and sweetbreads and croissant. An ideal course to go on if you plan to have family or friends round that evening!

Comfort Breads…Winter Warmers’ is a new course for this year. When the nights are drawing in and the Winter jackets are dug out there is nothing we all want more that to be comforted by delicious foods and fabulous flavours. On this course we will be exploring some different flavours and different types of breads - designed to be perfect with a bowl of soup, for mopping up gravy or simply cheese on toast! We will spend the afternoon baking some deliciously sticky sweetbread treats.

Festive Courses

‘Stollen & Sweetbreads’ course is one for those with a sweet tooth! A great way to get into the Festive Spirit! Spend a fun day baking Fruit Stollen, Croissant and Sweetbuns - you will go home laden with lots of treats for the Festive period!

Stollen & Festive Wreathmaking’ Course. In the morning you will be with us in the bakery making Organic Fruit Stollen, Croissant, Sweetbuns and other breads - ideal for filling your freezer with lots of baked goodies just before Christmas. 
In the afternoon you will be in our Strawbarn with Helen Jackson from Rosebud Flowers -  making beautiful Country Living esque Wreaths to hang on your door ready for Christmas.

The main ingredient is grown a short walk from the bakery and all our courses include a tour of the millhouse and our stoneground mill. 

Most importantly, you will need a large basket to take home all your baking! 
You will be amazed by how much bread you take home. You also might want to clear a space in your freezer! 
Our Breadmaking Courses are held here at our bakery on our organic family farm in rural East Yorkshire. Everyone is welcome! Our courses are suitable for complete beginners through to those with more experience.

All our courses are full day courses 10am till 3:30pm. We offer coffee or tea on arrival and the day includes a hearty lunch.
